Casa One

Client: Abode Services

Location: San Jose, California

User: Homeless and very-low income residents

Building Area: 77,560 sf

Number of Units: 104 units

Du/Acre: 111du/ac

Parking: 51 spaces

Site Area: 0.94 Acres

Site Facts: Site is located on the historic The Alameda at the border of Santa Clara and San Jose

Amenities: Numerous outdoor gathering areas to supplement the small unit sizes

Construction Materials: Steel shipping containers, stained CMU, prefinished metal panel, corten steel, composite wood, steel, concrete, glass

Design facts: Buildings designed with metal shipping containers. Project site designed in two phases to allow existing residents to remain residing in the existing building located on the phase 2 area while phase 1 is constructed

Story to tell: This project is very unique to use metal shipping containers to construct housing for the homeless –shipping containers are structurally very stout for seismic design and allow for speed of construction since the containers are modified off site while the site work is completed at the same time.
