Project
Welcome Home

Yes. Welcome Home. The future home of disabled veterans. The Welcome Home provides a 27-unit affordable housing project on 0.336 acres, which once touted a mid-century public
library as a nexus of community, knowledge, hope and creativity but now tired and looking to the next generation – A structure to carry on all these attributes, but encapsulated in a Home. Welcome Home.

The three-story structure houses all studios and a 2-bedroom manager unit at level two and three, mostly all organized around a central communal exterior court, while at the ground level resides, the laundry room, bike access, bbq gathering, and community room. The street corner entrance is given particular
attention with a sculptural elevator tower (reminiscent of the mid-century forms) and signage, as the forms of boxed-balconies and screened walkways clothed in warm Fall hues all say, “you are safe here”.

The southern site edge provides a commercial retail space to the commercial street side and a vehicular entrance oriented to the existing vehicular entrance location. In contrast, the northern site edge transitions to residentially focused uses: meeting room, main entry and offices and ultimately to the
residential entrance located at the calm edge along Glenhaven Street.

Where a building of former glory fades, a shining beacon of hope and home beckons to say…Welcome Home
